Total Solar Eclipse Events

Official Plans for viewing the eclipse from Franklin.  Here are some of the exciting events that are planned for Franklin’s eclipse weekend!

Friday, August 18th – 7:00pm to 9:00pm.   Simpson County Courthouse Square, Franklin, KY 42134
Summer Nights Concert Series with Dizzorderly Conduct playing Southern Rock and Pop music.  Concert is FREE!

 

Sunday, August 20th – 3:00pm to 7:00pm.   208 Harding Road, Franklin, KY 42134
Total Solar Eclipse Cocktails at Dueling Grounds Distillery.  Great event to attend before the Total Solar Eclipse.

 

Sunday, August 20th – 4:00pm to 8:00pm.   430 South College Street., Franklin, KY 42134
Telescope Making Workshop.  Make your own telescope workshop (materials and hands-on instructions provided).  Located at The Exploratorium on the Franklin-Simpson High School Campus.  Cost $100  Pre-registration is required at least three weeks in advance (limit 15 participants per workshop) 270-586-3040.  Led by Western Kentucky University Professor and Astronomer Rico Tyler.

View the night time sky using your telescope from the workshop.  Bring your new telescope to view the sky during total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st at the Franklin Drive In.

Viewing the Nighttime Sky – Free event led by Western Kentucky University Astronomer Rico Tyler.  Located at the Exploratorium on the Franklin-Simpson High School Campus.

 

Monday, August 21st – 9:45am to 3:00pm.   6250 Nashville Road, Franklin, KY 42134
Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Party in Franklin, KY.  Located at the Franklin Drive-In – Partial Eclipse starts at 11:58am; total eclipse at 1:26pm.  Totality 2 min and 34 seconds (one of the longest totality times in the area).  Admission $5 per car load.  Narration by Tom Mason, Telescope Operator of the 60″ & 100″ Historic Telescopes at Mt Wilson Observatory (Mtwilson.edu) in the mountains above Pasadena, CA.  Telescopes will be set up for close-up viewing and cell phone photography of solar eclipse.  Projection of eclipse onto a large screen.  Car Parking with concessions including burgers, drinks, ice cream and candy.  Eclipse glasses for sale.  Contact Franklin-Simpson Tourism for more information 270-586-3040.

Total Solar Eclipse Happy Hour and Dinner Party at the Brickyard Cafe in Downtown Franklin.  Share your photos and enjoy a delicious dinner.  Reservations may be requested at 270-586-9080.
