United Way’s Feed the Need was created in 2009 to help food pantries that are experiencing a dramatic increase in demand and a shortage of supply. On Friday, March 6 from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday, March 7 from 9 am to 1 pm volunteers will accept and manage donations at all Houchens Markets, IGA, Priceless IGA, Save-A-Lot, Kroger, Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly, Dollar General Market, and Wal-Mart locations in Allen, Barren, Butler, Hart, Simpson, Logan and Warren Counties. Non-perishable food items such as tuna fish, canned chicken, peanut butter, mac & cheese, hamburger helper, etc are very much appreciated. All donations help food banks in the county in which they were collected. Companies, groups, and organizations are encouraged to conduct internal food drives by setting up donation collection boxes for their employees or members. The Chamber will collect for Feed the Need at the Community Health Fair on March 7. Contact the United Way office at 270-843-3205 or log onto the website for more information and to sign up.
