SUMMARY:Comedian James Gregory in Concert
DESCRIPTION:What do we all love as much\, if not more\, than music and drama? We all love to laugh…. and that is just what you will do when you come to Franklin in September to see comedian\, James Gregory.  Even if you haven’t heard of James Gregory\, there’s a good chance you’ve heard him on radio or TV.  The veteran comedian and Georgia native\, who bills himself as “The Funniest Man in America”\, creates an evening of non-stop laughter with a wry sense of the absurd\, a Southern accent and universal story-telling. The ridiculous\, the common and sometimes even the simplest events all become hilarious in the hands of this master storyteller and world-class comedian.  The concert begins at 7:00pm at the Goodnight Auditorium on Thursday\, September 14th. DESCRIPTION:The United Way Day of Caring will be Wednesday\, July 26.  Day of Caring is a structured volunteer opportunity that provides participants with a peek at volunteering.  Businesses and organizations can make a commitment to offer their employees a chance to “step away from their desks.”  Volunteers are needed in Simpson County for a project at Franklin-Simpson Nursing and Rehab anytime from 10am to 4pm for as little or as long as the volunteers would like.  Volunteers can assist by visiting with the residents\, reading a book to a group\, or even arranging a Bingo tournament.  Volunteers will need to coordinate efforts in advance to ensure activities are approved.  For more information\, visit www.UnitedWayDayofCaring.com.    If you or your group would like to volunteer\, call April Owens at United Way of Southern Kentucky at 270-843-3205.

SUMMARY:"Wizard of Oz" Summer Musical
DESCRIPTION:The Franklin-Simpson Arts Council will be off to see the Wizard this summer! \nThe Franklin-Simpson Arts Council is excited to be producing the beloved classic musical \n“THE WIZARD OF OZ” this summer under the direction of Jeff Moore and music direction of Elizabeth Little Cook.  Auditions will be held on May 22 and 23 from 6:30 to 9:00 at the Goodnight Auditorium in Franklin.  The  cast includes the main characters of Dorothy\, her three traveling companions-the Tin Man\, Scarecrow\, and the Cowardly Lion\, along with Glenda the Good Witch\, the Wicked Witch of the West\, and of course the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.   But to support these characters\, the production requires a hard-working chorus who will portray the roles of  Munchkins\, crows\, apple trees\, poppies\, Ozians\, Winkies\, and of course the fearsome flying monkeys.  Cast members can range in age from 7 and up. \n“The Wizard of Oz is the original American fairytale brought to life by way of a great American art form\, musical theatre”\, remarked Jeff Moore about the upcoming production. The Wizard of Oz is a story about “A man without a brain\, another without a heart\, one scaredy cat\, a conman\, and two women fighting over a pair of shoes”.  That is a great recipe for a fun summer theatrical experience” so please join us for a trip down the yellow brick road as a cast or audience member of this classic musical taking the stage of the Goodnight Auditorium in Franklin from July 20-23\, 2017.  Tickets will go on sale in June and will be available at the Gallery on the Square in  downtown Franklin\, 270-586-8055 or on-line at www.franklinsimpsonarts.org
