SUMMARY:Summer Musical Try Outs
DESCRIPTION:The Franklin-Simpson Arts Council will be off to see the Wizard this summer! \nThe Franklin-Simpson Arts Council is excited to be producing the beloved classic musical \n“THE WIZARD OF OZ” this summer under the direction of Jeff Moore and music direction of Elizabeth Little Cook.  Auditions will be held on May 22 and 23 from 6:30 to 9:00 at the Goodnight Auditorium in Franklin.  The  cast includes the main characters of Dorothy\, her three traveling companions-the Tin Man\, Scarecrow\, and the Cowardly Lion\, along with Glenda the Good Witch\, the Wicked Witch of the West\, and of course the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.   But to support these characters\, the production requires a hard-working chorus who will portray the roles of  Munchkins\, crows\, apple trees\, poppies\, Ozians\, Winkies\, and of course the fearsome flying monkeys.  Cast members can range in age from 7 and up. \n“The Wizard of Oz is the original American fairytale brought to life by way of a great American art form\, musical theatre”\, remarked Jeff Moore about the upcoming production. The Wizard of Oz is a story about “A man without a brain\, another without a heart\, one scaredy cat\, a conman\, and two women fighting over a pair of shoes”.  That is a great recipe for a fun summer theatrical experience” so please join us for a trip down the yellow brick road as a cast or audience member of this classic musical taking the stage of the Goodnight Auditorium in Franklin from July 20-23\, 2017.  Tickets will go on sale in June and will be available at the Gallery on the Square in  downtown Franklin\, 270-586-8055 or on-line at www.franklinsimpsonarts.org \n

SUMMARY:"Witness for the Prosecution"
DESCRIPTION:The Franklin-Simpson Community Arts Council has some great Spring\, Summer and Fall events planned with lots of drama\, music and comedy which you’re gonna love! \n  \nThis Spring it’s about drama\, and there is no better than one of the most celebrated courtroom dramas of all time\, “Witness for the Prosecution“\, to be held at the Goodnight Auditorium in Franklin\, KY on April 28th\, 29th\, & 30th.   “The Witness for the Prosecution” is a short story and play by British author Agatha Christie. The story was initially published as “Traitor Hands” in 1925. In 1933\, the story was published for the first time as “Witness for the Prosecution” and in 1948\, was finally published in the United States. \nWhen Leonard Vole\, a poor\, out of work\, struggling inventor is arrested for the sensational murder of a lonely and wealthy widowed acquaintance\, Emily French\, the famous attorney\, Wilfrid Robarts\, agrees to appear on his behalf.  The initial evidence is circumstantial but points to the charming Vole as the murderer. Despite being happily married to East German\, Romaine Vole\, he fostered the friendship with Miss French in the hopes that she would finance one of his many inventions.  It does not help his case when it is learned that Miss French changed her will prior to her murder with Vole being the primary beneficiary of a very large estate. Leonard states that he knew nothing about the will.  Romaine is apparently the only alibi Leonard has to his whereabouts at the time of the murder. The usual methods Robarts uses to test his clients’ guilt or innocence leads to him believing that Vole is indeed innocent. As the trial progresses\, the prosecution calls a surprise witness\, one that could place a nail in the coffin of Robarts’ planned line of defense. As he gets deeper and deeper into the case\, something doesn’t quite sit right with him\, although he doesn’t know what it is. The primary questions become how far Robarts will go to obtain evidence to acquit Vole and if he will ever discover why he feels that there is something odd about the case. \nThe play will be directed by Barbara Shriver who has also directed Love Letters\, Barefoot in the Park and A Raisin in the Sun for the F-S Arts Council.  Advance tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.  Tickets will go on sale March 28th and will be available at The Gallery on the Square in downtown Franklin\, 270-586-8055 or on-line at www.franklinsimpsonarts.org .

SUMMARY:"Love Letters"
DESCRIPTION:The next performance for the Franklin-Simpson Community Arts Council  will be a Dinner Theatre performance of “Love Letters” written by A. R. Gurney. Under the direction of Barbara Shriver\, whom will be directing her 3rd play for the F-S Arts Council\,  the production will be held February 10th\, 11th & 12th at the Roxy Theatre in Franklin\, Ky. Steve Thurmond was chosen to play the part of Andrew Mackepeace Ladd\, III and Sherry Hall will play the part of Melissa Gardner.   Steve is the Director of the Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce.  He is married to Brenda\, is a father of three and a grandfather of ten.  Sherry is a representative and advocate for Hospice.  She is married to Mark Hall and has two children and two grandchildren. \n  \nThe characters\, Andrew (Andy) Ladd and Melissa Gardner\, both born to wealth and position\, are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. Romantically attached\, they continue to exchange letters through for over 50 years.  As the actors read the letters aloud\, what is created is an evocative\, touching\, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.  Dates and times are Friday and Saturday\, February 10th & 11th at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:30) and Sunday\, February 12th at 3:00pm (door opens at 2:30). Tickets are $25.00 for Friday and Saturday for Dinner and the Play and $15.00 on Sunday for the Play and Dessert only. Tickets are available at The Gallery on the Square in downtown Franklin\, 270-586-8055 or on-line at www.franklinsimpsonarts.org .
